Jesus Christ our Lord was a courageous man. He boldly and confidently rebuked the false religious leaders and all other self-righteous people.
He also stunned the general populace by calling them perverted (Luke 9.41). Holy living was His moniker and badge…as ours should be as well (1 John 2.4-6)! The kingdom was His focus.
Of course, He was castigated for admonishing the people in and for their sin. Since they had zero case against him, they reverted to the age old tactic. This is to attack the character of the person exposing their foolish error hoping this will divert attention away from the actual attack.
In logic this is known as Argument To The Man, or Ad Hominem Abusive in Latin.
False Logic Premise: This person is claiming X. This person is a jerk. Therefore, X is false.
False Secular Example Today: Christians claim all LBGT’s (homosexuals) go to hell. Christians are morons. Therefore, the LBGT lifestyle is fine.
False Religious Example Today: This Christian leader teaches we should all agree. This leader is known to be crazy, and actually insane for his teaching, his doctrines. Therefore, agreeing to disagree is just fine.
False Religious Example from the Bible:
John 10:19-20 A division occurred again among the Jews because of these (Jesus’) words. Many of them were saying, “He has a demon and is insane. Why do you listen to Him?”
Mark 3:21 When His own people heard of this, they went out to take custody of Him; for they were saying, “He has lost His senses.”
2 Corinthians 10:10 For they say, “His letters are weighty and strong, but his personal presence is unimpressive and his speech contemptible.”
Bible Warnings about this False Logic Premise:
John 7:16-17 So Jesus answered them and said, “My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me. If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from Myself…”
John 7:18 “He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.
True Logic from the Bible:
Mark 3:22-26 The scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.”
And He called them to Himself and began speaking to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? “If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. If Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but he is finished!..”
Final observation: the majority of people in the west today, including most church people, are empty suits when it comes to defending their outrageous opinions. To try and save face they’ll attack and demean you. Point them to the One who is the Truth, and to His Word. If they refuse, shake the dust off your feet and don’t cast your pearls for they are nothing more than modern-day pigs and dogs!
