Our Lord Jesus declares to the lost Samaritan woman at the well that His Father has the preeminence of worship in her life. What, you might say?
In most every assembly of believers (the called out ones vs. “church”) I’ve been in over the last two decades or so, they all worship (“worth-ship”) and live for Jesus the Son. This is all well and good…but what does Jesus command as the Father’s Messiah, and viceroy?
Worship the Father. Three times in these few sentences. Are we taking notice, dear ones?
John 4:21-24 (NASB) Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
In Revelation, the creatures in the worship scenes there declare, “To Him (the Father) who sits on the throne, and unto the Lamb…”
We’ve written and preached on this theme before…(WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN? [MONDAY MANNA 110])..the Word is chock full of declarations about the Father and who He is and what He is due from us. In some cases the Word speaks more about Him than Jesus!
I have a dear brother who is a terrific Bible teacher and close friend. And he mainly emphasizes the Father first, as does the Scripture and Jesus Himself. We in the west and those influenced by us here all swim in the “Jesus only” waters.
How many times have we heard, “It’s all about Jesus?” Trouble is, it’s not right…
What must our Father in heaven be thinking…and feeling…about this?
Before you might think about writing me a nasty-gram back, I love dearly our Lord Jesus Christ. I worship Him..too! But take the next 30 days and when reading His Word, and mark all the references to the Father…
You’ll be shocked and amazed. So, then, when we worship the Father, we’re obeying His Son too.
And worship is everything we do 24-7 in this life in making God bigger to see through the acts of our individual lives.
“Father God, we beg and beseech You to teach us through the Spirit of Jesus how to worship You and bring You pleasure in every respect.”
