We can become full of awe when we see that the Creator God, the Son of the most High, has sovereignly been chosen of God the Father to sovereignly choose us as His disciples.
The Word declares then there are those who have a closer relationship with the Godhead. They are those who are summoned in a special way by Him, those whom He Himself wanted most of all. What a responsibility and loving, gracious privilege.
Our brother Mark records it as thus:
And He went up on the mountain and summoned those whom He Himself wanted, and they came to Him. (Mark 3:13)
Have you too been summoned in a special way, akin to the twelve, or the seventy, or those in the book of Acts? Have you heeded the calling of Him who gave all for you? Are you walking in the faith that assures we all can walk worthy of any calling, especially if it’s that special summons?
Or are you like so many others, distracted and disappointing Him who you claim to love and follow? He’ll wait for a season for you, but then move on to accomplish His will. Are we worthy…or worthless?
Matthew 25:29-30 “For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
“Father God, these are sobering words for us who claim Your wonderful Name. When You summon us through Your Son, we desire to respond with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. You want us to be Yours forever. Don’t let us become distracted and disappointing. And we desire to please You in all respects. Help us, oh holy One, to abide this day and forever more!”
