In the extraordinary book of Daniel we see our brother serving God in a foreign land, stolen away as a young teen of perhaps 15 and serving at least 63 years.
Read that? 63 years. Count the years if you will. 1. 2. 3.
He never returned to Israel, his home land. How would we like to spend over half a century in Iraq? He was at least 80 when he went into the lion’s den to be maimed and torn limb from limb. The king who worried over him that night was likely young enough to be Daniel’s son, and looked up to Daniel as a father figure.
Amazing perseverance. No mention of a wife, for many think he was castrated and made a eunuch. Hear that men? Castrated as a teenager when his hormones were at their absolute peak…remember those days, men?….no sexual pleasure…your entire life. I can’t wait to hear brother Daniel recount his stories of God’s help, comfort, and strength all throughout eternity!
After 12 chapters of profound insight, prophecy, and deep wisdom, Daniel pens the very last verse, given him by the “the man dressed in linen..who swore by Him who lives forever:”
“But as for you (Daniel), go your way to the end, then you will enter into rest and rise again for your allotted portion at the end of the age.”
Final rest, if we endure to the end of the age.
“A final rest is promised, great God, for us based on Your gracious eternal purpose to enter into Your kingdom. We gives thanks for You, Your plan, and for planning our allotted portion. You are, indeed, a great God!”
Your friend and brother in fighting the good fight,
Marc
