As trusting believers in the Father’s King of kings, Jesus Christ, we know by His Word and in our hearts that the Holt One of God is omni-present. Meaning He’s all (omni) present in all areas of His creation at the very same time. “Don’t I fill heaven and earth?” writes Jeremiah 23 about God. David as psalmist in 139 records that there’s no where he can flee from God’s presence.
Of course, God does not live within non-human things He created like trees, or water, or soil. “All” may mean “all” of a certain group and/or limited way or situation. But His eternal presence is in all or around all areas of His creation simultaneously. He is, also, already in the future of time and eternity. Thus, His super-natural record of predicting all prophecy absolutely perfectly is…well…perfect!
We’re unable to grasp that phenomenal attribute of our God since we humans are trapped in the current segment of recorded time. Upon our death or rapture, we’re released from the bonds of time, and enter limitless eternity. “Today,” said Christ to the thief, “you’ll be with Me in Paradise.” Another promise from our Lord and Savior.
God is even present in some way as the eternal torment rises with the cursed human beings who had the “mark” of the beast upon his soul. In Revelation 14 we read with terror that those billions of created souls in the image of God are forever tormented in retributive holy justice.
As you’re reading about this horror, I too am extremely uneasy about this part of a loving God. But this part of His just love is exactly that: just.
“…he (with the ‘mark’) also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed in full strength in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; they have no rest day and night…”
But…
There is one place God is not present.
Can you imagine where that may be?
It’s in the human heart, in the spirit, of a person who does not know, and routinely obey, the Holy Spirit. God’s contact, conviction, and convincing a lost person that he needs God’s gift of repentance seems to be through that very portal to the person’s spirit.
And God the Holy Spirit makes that connection…if fully received by the human soul, then God the Holy Spirit enters fully into the person’s spirit. Not a junior, pint-size Holy Spirit, but the God of all the universe, with the power that created all we see.
And begins to abide! Wonder of wonders….hallelujah!
Until that time, God’s omni-presence is limited by his own sove-reign command and choice. He cannot deny Himself. But His will is for all to know Him, to fill His kingdom with holy royal citizens. I love the old King James translation of this theme: God is “no respector of persons.” As Peter said in Acts in the KJV, in all nations, the person who fears God, and works righteousness, is accepted with Him.
All (“many” is the wrong English word here) are called, but few are chosen. What is the basis for His gracious choice? The Word speaks often to this requirement.
Lord God, we love You and thank you for Your gracious choice of us. Speak to our hearts on what You desire us to do in joining You as You continue populating, maturing, and completing Your great Kingdom, Your eternal purpose. Your kingdom come, our dear Friend.
