At Stone Mountain, Georgia there’s a replicated frontier village with a glass blowing shop. The furnace is heated to incredible temperatures and the craftsman then places the glass through the furnace opening directly into the fire. The fire is white hot and so bright he must wear protective goggles.
The entry to the furnace was called “the glory hole” by various craftsmen through the years. Why? Since the fire served as a constant reminder to convicted and wandering souls that hell was real and approaching, Jesus would save many there and then for His “glory.”
When the craftsman removes the glass for final shaping, it’s now moldable and ready for the task.
Do you, dear one, find yourself immersed in various trials? Do some drone on and on and on seemingly forever? Does it appear on the surface that there’s no real way out? Are these things, as the passage relates, distressing your heart? Are you, honestly, close at times to throwing in the towel on this whole thing?
Like the fiery furnace, our various trials serve as proof our faith even though tested by fire. God’s fire purifies the object of its focus: our body, soul, and spirit. The outcome? The Word proclaims being a faithful overcomer ensures the final part of salvation which can then be called imperishable faith.
That is also the proof of our love. And our devotion to Him who devoted everything for you and me.
1 Peter 1:6-7…now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ…
Father, You alone have the Words of Life. Let us never shame the family name of Christ. We beg You for grace so we stand strong, being on the alert always, and not having to shrink back at His appearing. Thanks You!
