As followers of Christ by His mighty Holy Spirit, are we in-dependence on Him? Or are we independent of Him? Our eternal destiny is dependent of this one fact. Can we safely proclaim that a pagan who is independent of God is in rebellion?
Note: a companion piece deals with the notion of America’s leaders being so-called Christians:
AGAINST CHRIST? AMERICA’S TOP 5 FOUNDING FATHERS [DEAR BRETHREN 6]
What follows is an excellent piece by David Neal on “Independence Day.” But first…
What did the prophet Samuel prophesy to King Saul when the king refused to clearly obey the God he claimed sworn allegiance?
“…and the LORD sent you on a mission, and said, ‘Go and utterly destroy the sinners, the Amalekites and fight against them until they are exterminated.’ Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD, but rushed upon the spoil and did what was evil in the sight of the LORD?” 1 Samuel 15:18-19
Of course, Saul lied but said he did obey, then passed-the-buck and blamed his subjects for the problem of hoarding the enemy’s possessions, and tried to pass off the lie by deceitfully wrapping it in a religious exercise of sacrifice. Samuel obviously wasn’t fooled by Saul’s rebellion against God, and certainly neither was God:
Samuel said, “Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed (place close attention) than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of divination (witchcraft), and insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king.”
There you have it. Rejecting the word of the Lord. Being a rebel is rebellion and is witchcraft to God. Witchcraft. God have mercy on our souls. The mercy of God only covers so much for so long. In the end, the Almighty never negotiates His holiness, which is who He is pure and simple.
The next obvious part, then, is to carefully and prayerfully discover if we are in any way the same as King Saul? Are we in rebellion to God’s Word and principles? And if so, how safe are we to ignore the Holy Spirit’s conviction?
Were we in the American colonies in the late 1700’s, and are we now in the 21st century, rebels at heart in love with rebellion against authority that God has sovereignly placed in our lives in His great love? Our eventual eternal location depends on your answer to this and the obedience to the wishes, will, and command of God our Creator. Satan, our great sworn eternal enemy and destroyer, is supremely focused on our demise. Are we supremely focused on fully resisting him, so he will flee?!
Please note: when brother David uses the derogatory term “religious,” he means ‘falsely religious’ for the word religion is an excellent word used in context of His Word. You may read the truth about that Godly term here.
Independence Day – by David Neal (edited by Marc White for brevity)
This will not be the typical patriotic story concerning America, freedom, flag waving, and heroism with perhaps a tearful heart rending message. Most who read this will likely become angry and quite livid (furious, enraged, incensed, outraged) concerning the truth written herein.
This message is intended for and written to those who identify with Jesus Christ, yet are very comfortable in the American culture around them. The revelations contained herein will hopefully cause those who sincerely desire to “follow” Christ to consider just what path they are on. Perhaps the hearts and direction of some may change and thus they will find their hope only in Christ.
This paper is not meant to “make light” or “put down” the deep held beliefs of those who are firm and set in “their own way.” If you do not genuinely want to serve God and know His truth, then you will never understand this message and have no need to proceed further.
The author has enjoyed a good life (perhaps too good) in the United States (henceforth referred to as America). He has no animosity (hostility, hatred) toward this country or its peoples. The author would never betray this country for any evil reason nor is he proposing to take up arms (violence) in any way. The author is not trying to regain freedoms which some suppose have been lost.
The purposes written herein are not to change America at all (no such authority is given). The discussion related to the nature (character) of America is just a great example to get you as an individual to honestly think about your own life and which direction or “path” you are headed down.
The ideals of America very much parallel the fallen nature of man. To change the ideals of America would be to change the very fallen nature of man. This only God can do one individual (heart) at a time as they surrender all to Him (through Christ) and come back under His authority. Cumulatively, this would not only change America, but the world.
This message is intended to cause you, oh religious one, to examine your heart (2 Cor 13:5) and ask God to do the same (Ps 139:23-24) by revealing the truth of your life which may be masked by blindness and deception. If you read this article and sincerely confirm that you are in Christ Jesus and have no cause for concern (walking in His light), then the author rejoices with you that you are on the narrow path.
This message is being written on the Eve and day of the American Independence Day celebration. The author no longer celebrates this holiday nor was he pondering it in any way until the Lord suddenly put this writing on his heart. The author has surrendered totally to Jesus Christ and serves (honors, worships) none other.
God’s Word makes it quite clear that you are to love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength (Mk 12:30 ); this is total submission to the Lord. This is not a suggestion. You are further told: Exodus 20:3, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” There are a multitude of gods in the world. These idols are anything in your life that is placed above God and especially including “your own way” (Is 42:8).
Since God requires us to lovingly (freely) surrender with a willing mind and perfect heart to obey Him fully, it does not take much from another source to “rise above” (1 Chr 28:9). Patriotism and love of one’s country can very easily become idols put before God. A patriot is one who loves and defends his country.
This means that you hold dear the ideals which the country represents as keeping with your own. The hope of this paper is to give the reader insight into the ideals of America and perhaps motivate you to seriously consider if these ideals are the direction or “path” you want to be headed down. Partaking of the evils in the society (culture) around you can also very quickly become seeking your own way rather than following God’s Way.
It is the great challenge and duty of the author to tell those who profess Christ and are going about “their way” that they are living and should be dying – while cutting through all the blindness and deception. You say that you “love Jesus” and are following, but the path is the way of the cross which spells death to “SELF” (Rm 7:18 , 2 Tim 2:11 ). This act of love will no doubt be received with much scorn by many. Let us carefully consider what the Lord would say to His people.
Laying the Foundation
Lucifer’s wisdom was corrupted because he now sought to live and perform his own will above God’s – “thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God (Ez 28:2, 31:10).” Consider the rebellion: Isaiah 14:13-15, “For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.”
Can you see the I, I, and the Me, Me? Can you see how this negates the will of the one true God of all? Such pride, such arrogance – these are characteristics that God hates, for they are an abomination to Him (Pv 16:5). Lucifer’s devotion (heart) was to himself and seeking those things which would bring satisfaction to self.
The narrow and broad paths – Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in there at: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
Sheep and the goats – Sheep are gentle, humble and loving by nature and follow where they are led. Sheep follow when called! Goats are gruff, assertive, ornery (irritable, crabby, grouchy) and like to go about their own way. Goats must be driven! Sheep represent those submitted to Christ. Goats represent those submitted to the devil. Those who are driven will be quick to compromise or find a less restrictive path.
Those who are driven will only want to do the minimum that seems to be required. Those who are driven will always wonder, “what’s in it for me (Job 21:15, 35:3).” Those who are driven may do things in secret. Those who are driven find comfort in numbers. Those who are driven will at best grudgingly follow God. Those who are driven will seek a multitude of counsels until they hear what they are looking for (Ps 5:10).
Wheat and the tares – The wheat grain represents the good seed of the harvest that one expects to reap from one’s efforts. This is the fruit resulting from the life of the plant that is fit for use (life giving). Tares are the weeds that grow up amongst the wheat and their lives have no redeeming value, and they actually hinder the growth and productivity of the wheat. Jesus told a parable concerning wheat and tares (Mt 13:24-43). Tares soak up the water and use the nutrients and spread all about seeking their way, but produce nothing useful, just more of their kind (they transgress).
A major component in the rebellion against God is pride. Pride is the exalting of one’s self. The devil tried to raise his throne above God, and be as the most High (Is 14:14); and this is arrogance and pride. A high look and proud heart is sin (Pv 21:4). For man to exalt his will, then God’s will must suffer. To walk in your way rather than God’s way is just such undue self exaltation. You are conveying that your way is superior, more important and worthy of adherence (devotion, obedience, observance, loyalty, faithfulness). Do you see how this negates God and relegates Him to unimportance (unworthy)?
The Message of In-dependence Day
…many will now say: “What does this have to do with America and Independence Day?” Please pray that God will lift the blindness and give you eyes to see as we proceed in this message.
The foundation had to be laid such that you will be in the proper frame of mind and understanding for what is written. To preface this writing, we must all understand that throughout history, nations and peoples have always assumed that their causes are just and that God is on their side. They have always assumed divine intent and endorsement of their beliefs, ideals and purposes.
To illustrate the point, an example that most Americans can relate to: Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany absolutely believed their cause was just. They not only believed God was on their side, but had a motto, “Gott Mit Uns” (God with us). Remember that Christ’s name, Emmanuel, means “God with us” (Mt 1:23).
People rarely follow wickedness unless it is sugar-coated with noble intent – known as deception. Most men are quite gullible to evil and only wise in their own eyes (Pv 3:7, 12:15, Is 5:21, Jer 4:22). When considering the ideals of America, the author does not disregard the fact that there are and have been many true followers of Christ in America that have influenced this country (and it’s development) in some positive ways. This paper rather examines what the predominate American culture represents and why it is contrary to God’s expectations of what we must be.
We must also realize that Christian rhetoric (words, not actions) can often mask the truth and leave many deluded (fooled, tricked, misled) in blindness and deception. Hasn’t this always been the devil’s purpose? We must stop listening to rhetoric and start looking at actions, or fruit (Mt 7:16, 20). Fruit is the result of actions, and actions are a true indicator of intent.
America
The nation of America was born out of rebellion! (Rm 13:1-2)
(Note from Marc White – to learn of the real hearts of America’s top 5 founding fathers and their religious passions against Christ: AGAINST CHRIST? AMERICA’S TOP 5 FOUNDING FATHERS [DEAR BRETHREN 6]
It broke away from the English empire by force of will. The very foundation of America is rebellion. The successful rebellion against England exalted the colony to an official nation. Upon this foundation a country was developed that has exalted itself to lead all the nations of the earth, and even has a claim upon the moon. Is there any nation so prideful in all the earth?
You needn’t suppose, just ask any American and they will tell you. All the reasons that one may offer as justification for this rebellion are based upon the “seeking of self.” Americans proudly proclaim that they were seeking freedom. Freedom is simply the less restrained ability for man to seek his “own way” – liberty to seek “your will.” This is “doing what is right in your own eyes” with less restraint. This is “fulfilling your dreams” or the “imaginations of your own heart” with less resistance.
Many will say the freedom obtained was so that we could worship God without persecution. Where is that granted in God’s Word? Doesn’t the one who is sanctified (set apart) and walking by faith (in the Spirit) always suffer persecution from the majority who are opposed to God (in the flesh, Pv 29:27)? To be accepted by those of the flesh, you must stifle (suppress, restrain, smother, suffocate, hold back) the Word of God and its manifestation in your life. This is known as compromise! This is extinguishing your light and testimony or witness – to be as salt without taste (no saltiness, Mt 8:17 , Mk 9:50 , Lk 14:34 ).
This is to die to the things of the Spirit so the flesh can find comfort. If you do not understand this, then perhaps compromise has weakened your testimony (witness) and dimmed your light such that you are ineffective. We must realize that a “true believer” walks the path of the cross in following His Lord Jesus. To carry a cross is to be a great reproach for all to see. Did not Jesus suffer the ridicule (mocking, belittling, criticism) of others? Are we not to follow in Jesus’ steps? Jesus learned obedience through His suffering and so will we (Heb 5:8-9). Psalm 34:19, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.”
Consider Paul’s sufferings (2 Cor 11:23 -28). What about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (Daniel Chapter Three)? However, the author will add that freedom is also the ability to religiously seek your “own way” as men often do (with façade of belief). Freedom is obtained when one is no longer subject to (coming out from) the rule and authority that had been in place.
In America we are told that “freedom is not free.” This is so true. Man’s freedom cost him his relationship with God, a lifetime of toil (Job 14:1), and then death. Man’s freedom also cost the death of God’s Son, Jesus – and there is no greater cost than that.
We are told that our freedom in America was secured by the blood of our brave soldiers who were injured and died for us. We are also told that “ America is home of the free and the brave.” Being brave is presumed to be standing up for and defending your “own way” of life or chosen path. This American blood was given so that we could live in freedom and seek the American way – “to walk in our own ways.”
But wait: God’s Word says that Jesus died and spilt His blood for us such that through Him we could walk in “God’s way” – that narrow path. Christ’s blood was shed such that we could renounce our rebellious freedom and return to God and submit to the Lord’s authority. America parallels what happened in Eden and ever since in a stunning manner. Can any of this be ignored or trivialized away?
Go ahead religious man consider all your thoughts to justify the unpardonable (unjustifiable, indefensible, inexcusable, reprehensible) – but read on. Wouldn’t we expect to see the fallen nature of man magnified in a collective group (i.e. nation) who have their father’s nature (devil, Jn 8:44)? The question to be considered is: are you going to be a part of this beast or rather sanctified (set apart) through a walk of truth (faith) in Christ (Jn 17:19 , Acts 26:18, Rm 15:16 )?
We cannot walk in “our way” and also walk in “God’s way“ (Mt 6:24 , Lk 16:13). Most people think that you can do just that and this is how they live their lives. The religious man will even tell us that God endorses “our way” or “path” (Pv 17:15 , 24:24). Religious men will also tell us that God blesses this nation in its independence and freedom; concepts that undermine submission to authority (1 Thes 5:21 ).
To live your life as independent and free is to never grasp the truth and reality (or walk therein) of surrender, sacrifice, meekness, servitude and obedience. Oh, you may give a little if the flesh is not denied. This is to walk in a way that does not line up with God’s nature and expectations. This is a very negative object lesson for one seeking God. Jesus is our example to follow and conform to – to be in His likeness and image (Col 3:10 ).
Did Jesus counsel the Jews to take up arms and war against Rome? The answers to these questions are easily found in the gospels – they should be read and taken to heart. So, is the author suggesting America come back under the authority of England? The answer is no, for those who are missing the point. Look at the Spiritual equivalent. The author is saying to forsake your “way” and be reconciled with God through His “Way.” Your “way” is an ongoing rebellion that will be put down and will not be established as a dual reality throughout eternity.
America has always been known for rebellion (independence), pursuit of self, and pride. The ideals (principles) of America are blasphemy to God. To blaspheme is to dishonor God and to claim for one’s self the attributes of God – an irreverent act or attitude (to disregard God). One of God’s sovereign attributes is to be able to determine the course or “path” of His creation; but the creation now says it will determine its own “path” in seeking it’s freedom. Jesus said that blasphemies proceed out of the heart of a man and this defiles the man (Mt 15:19 -20). Americans have definitely taken freedom to heart.
Americans ascribe (attribute) the blood of their patriots to the salvation of their freedom which allows Americans to seek their “own way” and this dishonors Christ. Christ came and shed His blood to free you from the sin which results from seeking “your way.”
Can you see the opposites? The freedom America offers is to seek self (maybe religiously). The freedom Christ brings is death to self so as to be found complete in God (Mk 8:35 ). One reflects the nature of Satan and his “Lie,” but the truth is obscured. America is known for its pride. The citizens are “proud to be Americans.” They are constantly told that America is the greatest nation on the face of the earth (exaltation, arrogance). Pride is what compels and motivates one to rise above another, and is certainly opposite of humbleness and submission.
Consider the pride and glory of America: Men have looked upon and been fascinated with the moon since creation (some have worshipped it). America has been to the moon (set foot upon) several times (in craft named for Roman gods) and has raised a flag upon the moon’s surface. The raising of a flag has always denoted a claim of ownership. No other nation could perform such a feat (one tried, Dan 12:4) – “Let us reach into heaven and make us a name” (tower of Babel , Gen 11:4) – how arrogant. God placed man upon the earth and Christ is coming back to the earth (His will, Rev 1:7). However, Americans talk of a permanent presence outside of the earth, moon bases and trips to Mars. Such pride!
The people of America are taught from a young age the concepts and principles of freedom. Americans are taught that they are not ruled by a monarch (sovereign), but rather by themselves. This concept is known as democracy (government by the people and for the people). Children are taught to pledge allegiance to the American flag (with their right hand of authority over their heart). The flag represents all the ideals that this country is based upon. This is the standard and emblem – the symbol.
The flag is considered sacred (hallowed, revered, sanctified, blessed) and there are many rules regarding its use, placement and handling. The flag is proudly displayed above all others and saluted. There is no doubt that it is worshipped. In scripture, we are told of a king (Nebuchadnezzar) who set up an image that everyone was required to worship at the sound of the music (Daniel Chapter Three).
In America, at the sound of the music (Star Spangled Banner), the citizens are required to worship its image which has been set up (flag, symbol of its ideals). Christian parents are teaching their children to put their trust, loyalty and faith in a nation (false god, for their provision and welfare) that undermines the true God (seated itself in the place of). The flag of the American woman flies over the seven continents of the earth and she looks down upon them (sitteth upon, Rev 17:15 ) from a grid of complex satellites in multiple orbits around the earth (Rev 17:9). America (and hence the world) is ruled from a city known as Washington DC (unique in America and the world) – reigning over the kings of the earth (Rev 17:18 ).
Her great invincible armadas (aircraft carrier groups, submarines) roam the seven seas from ports all over the world to ensure her advantage (Rev 17:1). She sits as a queen and proclaims, “I am, and none else beside me, and I shall see no sorrow” (Is 47:8-9, Rev 18:7).
Special songs of “praise” are also sung to America (My Country Tis of Thee, Star Spangled Banner) to honor it’s ideals. Americans are told to give their total allegiance (loyalty) to this country (and thus self) and to die if necessary to protect it. BUT WAIT: We are suppose to give all allegiance to God alone – our heart, mind, soul and strength (Mk 12:30 ). Again, you cannot serve two masters. You cannot be walking in “your path” or “man’s path” and also be walking in “God’s path.”
You cannot be in the darkness, yet be in the light. You cannot have faith, yet walk by the flesh (unbelief). You cannot have God’s nature which hates pride, arrogance, self seeking, blasphemy, and rebellion; and yet identify with and be participant in these very things. You cannot have dual loyalties with things that oppose one another. You cannot be filled with God’s Spirit and also seek the things of the flesh (Gal 5:16 -17). You cannot have the nature of a goat, yet follow as a sheep. It can’t be done! To be a weed (tare) is to abandon any hope of ever producing any usable fruit (wheat). Americans do not want to be ruled over in the sense of having a king or monarch. BUT WAIT: Jesus Christ is the King of kings (1 Tim 6:12 -16, Rev 17:14 , 19:16 ). Jesus is also the God of gods (Josh 22:22 , Ps 136:2, Dan 2:47 ).
Since Americans do not like the thought of a king, they have set up a form of government that allows for self representation. The approach appoints leaders who are elected for a period of time by the people to represent the people in “the way” or “path” they want to walk. The people “decide for themselves” who will direct the affairs of the nation such that their “way” is not impinged upon (encroached, intruded). If they do not get what they want, then they replace the leaders accordingly. Political parties and special interest groups have been developed to lobby for the desires of many. This political process is a continual give and take and is very corrupted with gifts and favors
In order to decide for “themselves” who will lead this country, Americans are given something considered very sacred, known as a vote. The right to vote is considered a great privilege and allows one to voice one’s opinion (in a concrete way) concerning who represents “their” interest. Candidates sway the voters in their favor by promising “things” to an audience with attentive ears.
Does anyone believe that God’s rule in the heavens is democratic? Does anyone think that God will yield to “their way” (perhaps through a vote) throughout eternity? Does anyone think God will play give and take with the way you lived your life? Then why do those who say they are called by His Name live and embrace such ideals on earth?
God’s glory will not be diminished one little bit with or without you. That statement may damage your “pride,” but you best see the wisdom and realize your humble dependence upon the truly righteous God. Religious man has also become very involved in this political process to ensure that his “ways” are also represented.
America is looked upon as the “defender of the faith.” If America is so Christian, has such a Christian history and is so defensive of the faith, then why is this country so decadent (depraved, self indulgent, immoral, materialistic, sensual, violent) and un-Christ like? The fruit is just plain rotten – do you have eyes to see? If you can’t see that then you must be blind with no discernment. Well, was America or her brave patriots “crucified for you” (1 Cor 1:11 -13)?
Americans are taught that this country is where one can realize one’s hopes and dreams. This is still the anticipation of immigrants today. One can truly seek one’s “own way” in this land – make your own path. Based upon this foundation, America has developed into a very materialistic (lustful desire for possessions, worldly, selfish, money-oriented, covetousness) society – self indulgent. America actually consumes most of the world’s resources – it is the great importer (Rev 17:2, 18:3, 7, 9-16).
The religious men have told us over and over that God has blessed this nation – God bless America. We must really consider the validity of this statement. We live in a very flesh oriented society that constantly tempts one with things that oppose God (from a multitude of sources such as television – overload). Most have the time and resources to indulge themselves. Is this a blessing?
Religious men walk their talk in that they build great monuments, for God of course. These buildings are complete with all the worldly amenities, even including gymnasiums, convention style kitchens, banquet rooms, and vast youth facilities, theaters, etc. Are not these eminent (prominent, distinguished, important) high places (Ez 16:24 , 31, 39)?
America has been a nation of war. The justifications for these wars doesn’t really matter, only the fact that this nation is a warring country and pursues war all over the globe. This nation has been violent since its inception: revolutionary wars, Indian wars, civil wars, regional wars, international/world wars, wars on communism, space wars, war on terrorism, etc. America has assumed a self appointed role as the world’s policeman.
This is a nice way to say that America is an aggressor exerting its will. This nation is dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it has great iron teeth: it devours and brakes in pieces, and stamps the residue with the feet of it (Dan 7:7). Consider Iraq! Afghanistan! America shall devour the whole earth (Dan 7:23) America’s military has always been presented to the public in terms of being defensive.
The expenditures for war preparation are unrivaled in world history and go far beyond what is necessary. Please consider carefully what is about to be said. Jesus said, John, 14:15, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” 1 John 5:3, “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”
Now mankind, and Americans in particular, will always justify hatred for their enemies (Lk 6:35). Therefore, Jesus emphasized the point: Matthew 5:43-45, “Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”
Notice how some tried to bypass (find loophole) in the second commandment through the use of the term “enemy.” Jesus said you are to “love” enemies if you want to be a child of God; and couldn’t have been more specific and clear (Pv 25:21-22, Rm 12:20 ). Luke 6:27-28, 32-33, “But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise (the second commandment). For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.”
Whenever you talk to someone about enemies and justification for hating them, it always boils down to loving those who love you. What shall we say of our enemies? Job 31:15, “Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?”
Consider the case of the American Civil War. Brother hated brother in a brutal war. The religious men on both sides were sure that their side’s cause was right and God was on their side. Both sides held religious services and prayed for their troops, yet their very endorsement of such things (the war), violated Christ’s commandment (which they knew) – did that matter?
Christians “voluntarily” send their sons and daughters off to war today to fight for America. Jesus said, if you love me (first commandment), then keep the second commandment – does this matter? What do your actions say? If you do not keep Christ’s Words then He is not in you and there is no relationship (1 Jn 2:5). 1 John 2:9, 11, “He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.”
Many will say: “But we are defending our nation or selves.” Go back and ponder the verses you just read – you’re seeking your way and are blinded by your own darkness. My “sentiment (opinions mixed with strong feelings)” will be above the most High. God’s way is not nullified with what seems reasonable and justifiable to the flesh (make the Word of God of none effect, Mk 7:13). No one goes off to war without having hatred and unforgiveness in their heart. How could you kill otherwise? 1 John 3:10, 15, “In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother (we are all brothers going back to Noah and ultimately back to Adam, family of man, brotherly love). Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.”
Those who follow Christ must love and overcome evil with good (Rm 12:20-21). We must bless those who persecute and curse not (Rm 12:14). Jesus said we cannot seek revenge either (Mt 5:38 -42, Pv 24:29, 1 Pt 3:9). Religious men greatly honor their veterans and have “prayer for the troops.” Matthew 26:52, “Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.” Some perish in the war, some perish “according to their deeds” at judgment.
Does God answer prayers that violate His declared will (Second Commandment)? Does God just understand your violations religious man (bow to your sentiment)? God said: Genesis 9:5-6, “And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man. Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.”
Oh religious man, go and pull out all of your biblical arguments to “justify” your “way.” Continue to justify the hate of war rather than the love of God; your only moving away from a truly loving God (Is 41:21). Many a religious man will profess, “I love God” while waving their flags and endorsing America’s violent actions. Consider: 1 John 4:20-21, “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.”
Perhaps your reasoning is a bit self centered: John 12:43, “For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.” Many religious men will justify many things because they do not want to suffer reproach for Christ (reproach goes against the flesh).
Every country that enters into war considers God to be on their side. This is certainly true of those nations that America wars with today. “But, America is a Christian nation and we are going to help those poor oppressed people.” Are we delivering the “good news” from our war planes. Do the soldiers love their enemies? In God we trust? Is America so Christ like?
Man (in the flesh) sees those who go off to war to fight for this nation as heroes. God sees those who refuse to go as heroes. These lay their lives down (and incur the wrath of society, loss of reputation) for another (those who will not perish as a result of them not supporting or participating in the war). 1 John 3:16, “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” This verse is the counterpart to John 3:16. Love is giving and sacrifice for another. Love denies the flesh (even the strong desire for self preservation) to fulfill God’s purposes. Your hate will reveal your heart.
Jesus commands that we love one another! Will you rise above the most High in your hatred? OR Will you keep Christ’s commandments and be found in Him? Jesus (as a man) never fought in wars nor endorsed them. Will you abide in Christ and walk as He walked (1 Jn 2:6) or will you walk your “own way?” Love your enemies and do good and great shall be your reward (Lk 6:35 ) – forgive and ye shall be forgiven (Lk 6:37 ).
We are told that America is the greatest nation on earth. America is free and everyone desires this freedom to seek their materialistic (money-oriented, worldly, self centered) dreams to a full conclusion (if the flesh can ever be satisfied and content). How has this freedom affected the lives of the nation’s citizens?
How has this desire to do what “I” want to do, and to realize “my” dreams played out in society? Aside from all the divorce, addictions (alcohol, smoking, drugs, pornography), homosexuality, crime, greed, love of violence, debt, sensuality, vices and glorification of every sin imaginable through televisionprogramming and the movie industry.
America has what is termed a national day of prayer. What are the leaders and peoples praying for? More importantly, how has it manifested in the society? After a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center there was a lot of talk of prayer. There wasn’t much public talk of repentance. There certainly wasn’t any evidence of repentance. Soon after the tragedy, a new world campaign was launched against terrorism with bombings and invasions of other countries (America now occupies Babylon).
This is not evidence of repentance before God (fruits meet for repentance, Mt 3:8). This even goes beyond an eye for an eye or a tooth for a tooth (Mt 5:38-39).
Let us look at an example of true repentance. The prophet Jonah was told to go and preach to Nineveh, Jonah 1:2, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.” Jonah’s message to the city was to repent or perish. The people of Nineveh believed God! Everyone from the greatest to the least fasted (neither eating nor drinking), they cried mightily unto God, and everyone turned from their evil way and violence. Jonah 3:10, “And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.”
How would such a scenario fit into the national day of prayer. The American leaders could make the repentance a reality – have they? Notice that the people of Nineveh backed up their prayers with actions. They humbled themselves, confessed their sin, and forsook their evil.
There is no denying the truth, whether you accept it or not. America is a nation of rebellion, pride, arrogance, blasphemy, idolatry, self seeking, war, murder – sacrifice of babies, self indulgent & materialistic, sexual perversion, and profanes the name of Christ (His gospel). These are not generalizations.
Christian nation? In God we trust? Defender of the faith? Greatest nation on the face of the earth? One nation under God? God bless America? Religious freedom? What has this religious freedom gained? The constant wickedness spewed out of the television has corrupted the hearts and blinded the eyes of this people. They all know the programming is evil, but refuse to part with their idol. They fill their hearts with wickedness and say they see.
This paper could continue on at length, but all things must have an end and the point has been firmly made. If you take offense at the things written, it may only prove that your ideals have been questioned; that which is sacred in your life; that which you worship. Just why did Jesus come?
Do you proudly identify with America’s values? Which Independence Day do you celebrate? Independence to continue to seek your way (freedom) and travel your path with maybe a religious “sheep clothing” type covering (Mt 7:15 ) OR independence from self and the ways of the fallen nature of man?
Do your opinions and sentiments exalt themselves above the Most High? Do you seek independence from the devil’s “lie” so that you can have God’s nature and enter in through Jesus (the strait gate) and travel Christ’s narrow path as led by His Spirit? Is your “freedom” to walk in the flesh or in the Spirit?
Do you have faith or unbelief – maybe religious unbelief? Do you seek the deliverance Jesus came to offer? Are you one of the few who will follow Jesus, as He walked, in submission and obedience to the Father (through Christ)?
Please consider: 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12, “And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved (turning fully to God with a whole heart). And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie (the devil’s lie, seeking your way): That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness (loved the darkness, Jn 3:19 ).” Ezekiel 11:21 , “But as for them whose heart walketh after the heart of their detestable things and their abominations, I will recompense their way upon their own heads, saith the Lord GOD.”
The choice is yours.
Many will say, “how can anyone live such a life?” The answer is that you have a willing heart and live one day at a time in faith trusting in God rather than what your flesh will tell you.
Each day is sufficient for the evil thereof (Mt 6:34, Pv 27:1). The flesh wants security into the future, but we must trust in God for the present. There is no short quick repeated prayer to make things right (Heb 4:2). You must sincerely seek God with all your heart to repentance. Repentance is not complete without actions – forsaking of wickedness and your way.
Lamentations 3:40-41, “Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD. Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.” Seek Jesus for the Holy Spirit (Mt 3:11, Lk 3:16) and then start your journey down that narrow path walking in faith. Your only redeeming value before God is your submission and obedience to Him (you have nothing else to offer).
The author sincerely prays for God’s speed on your journey – may the Lord keep you (Psalm chap. 23, Pup 3:12 ). Concerning the rebellious: He that hearth let him hear; he that forbeareth let him forbear (Ez 2:5, 7, 3:27 ). Ephesians 6:24, “Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.”
