When there’s little to no cost through real persecution for your faith in Christ due to false gospel preaching like modern America, then the cheap grace, anything-goes, the lets-be-nice baby manger Jesus, and Christian feminists rule the day. God cannot, and will not, bless and grow such a travesty of His Word through the costly blood of His Son, the King of His kingdom.
Kingdom Quote 45. Some people have no sense of the vileness of their sin, and no sense of God’s infinite and holy opposition to it. They think that God has no higher standards than they have. So they get on well with Him and feel a sort of love for Him–but they are loving an imaginary God, not the real God!
There are others whose self-love produces a sort of love for God simply because of the material blessings they have received from His providence. There is nothing commendable in this either.
Self-love can produce merely natural gratitude to God. This can happen through wrong ideas about God as if He were all love and mercy, and no avenging justice; or as if God were bound to love a person because of the person’s worthiness. Not at all – every time Christians meet we’re commanded to 1) eat the full meal Lord’s Supper, the love feast (1 Cor. 11.20; Jude 1.12), 2) “remind” Jesus to return for us (1 Cor. 11.26) and 3) be in complete unity and not sinning so God will not have to kill some of us (1 Cor. 11.29-30). Does your institutional or house assembly practice this? If not you’re failing to keep the traditions of God as both Jesus and Paul warned! Obey your Lord Jesus, saints. Pray carefully about the need to plant or join a new group of graciously obedient servants as God leads.
