Oh, what a pleasure to mine the riches of the Psalms! Many days I have felt the Spirit say to me that the sound of joyful shouting is what pleases Him immensely! The Psalmist wrote:
Psalm 118:15 The sound of joyful shouting and salvation is in the tents of the righteous; The right hand of the Lord does valiantly…
And again…
Psalm 68:3 But let the righteous be glad; let them exult before God; Yes, let them rejoice with gladness.
And again…
Psalm 32:11 Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous ones; And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.
God desires and is pleased with our open emotion, both deep trouble and joy unbridled, dancing, celebration in full view of the great cloud of witnesses. It brings Him exceeding glory, His eternal purpose.
The most frequent type of Psalm is a lamentation, both individually (46 times) and corporately (15 times). But in all cases except one, the psalmist eventually turns to God in praise, and/or thanksgiving, and often other attributes-wonders of His character. Let me know if you’d like the chart I’ve developed that names all the different psalms types. It’s quite interesting.
Personally, I’ve spent too many days giving up my joy to difficult times and staying mired in despair, especially those brought on by so-called brothers and sisters in the Lord. This is sin on my part and has not served my great God, and I’ve repented.
I’ve pleaded with the Holy Spirit to make me a creature of praise, to put to flight the devil’s army that seems to buffet all of us overcomers at times, and let exultation be the final daily resting place for my soul.
No matter where you find yourself today, beloved, in whatever trial and tribulation or tumult, the message of the Psalms is clear for us. Yes, pour out your complaint to Him, even if it deals with others who are the source of the trouble.
But, turn to the joyful shouting and salvation, glad rejoicing with thanksgiving, exult before the Lord God, your Savior and Mighty One! Go ahead, at the top of your lungs. Let us proclaim Him and teach others to celebrate with over-the-top praise. The devil is no match for the praises of our soul.
You may find that crying out is all over the pages of His holy Word. In the Psalms alone, it appears dozens of times (Psalm 3:4; 5:2; 9:12; 17:1; 18:6; 18:41; 22:2; 22:5; 22:24; 27:7; 28:2; 30:2; 31:22; 34:6; 34:15; 34:17; 39:12; 40:1; 57:2; 61:1; 66:17; 69:3; 77:1; 86:3; 88:1-2; 88:13; 89:26; 102:1; 106:44; 107:6; 107:13; 107:19; 107:28; 119:145-147; 119:169; 120:1; 130:1; 142:1; 142:5-6; 145:19; 147:9).
May Jesus be lifted up in your life today, brethren!
