Again, we human beings are touched with the death passing of another friend and believer into the full spirit realm to be with God Himself. How do we handle the loss and grief? Certainly, we give it to our Lord, and ask for His abiding comfort (2 Cor. 1).
For others we must exert other effort to bring closure. Such was the case when Vince Gill penned this song in the mid-90’s after several unexpected deaths.
Listen and watch as our sister Charlotte Richie laments this ballad with her rich alto voice. She gets help from Kim Hopper (on her right) and Ladye Love Smith (on her left), who are renowned gospel singers and soloists in their own right. Watch as the homecoming friends on stage embrace the sober reality of our own coming deaths someday soon, the heads shake in acknowledgement, the tears…and the knowing smiles of the victory that He has won. Because of Jesus Christ the King, we will all live forever.
Stay with this at the very end, as Bill Gaither asks the ladies to sing a bit more a cappella – you won’t be disappointed. Go to heaven a-shoutin’…love for the Father…and the Son. Hallelujah. Amen.
