Ah, the beloved musical about love, joy, and patience. Although not a Christian movie, this was produced in an age where respect and family moral values were the norm for many.

In the year 1965 with over 20 more years before I would meet the Lord Jesus, I took a favorite girl friend Carmen on a bus to downtown Chicago to see this wonderful motion picture on the big screen. Like thousands of others, I fell in love with the story and many of the characters.

Why?

Well, you have the true and tender love of a man and woman as husband and wife. You have the respectful and submissive help meet wife in Maria, played by Julie Andrews. And the Captain returning the respectful love of Maria since indeed she is irresistible to any normal man. You have the children who express deep love and obedience to their parents. And on and and on.

It reflects many values and hopes for every person, especially the Christian who wants to follow Jesus and help usher in some semblance of the kingdom here. Enjoy!
