Our Lord is giving us the instructions in Matthew 24 for the end times prior to His physical earthly return. If we hear the Holy Spirit closely, we might say we’re in those times today!
But…the Christ exhorts and admonishes us in a specific way in this passage:
Matthew 24:6 “You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end…”
Godly fear is a wonder-full thing. For by it, we gain the wisdom of Christ. Continued fear of circumstances is not only debilitating, but a sin that needs serious addressing.
His command is do not fear, and when we muster up the courage needed, the fright will dissipate and not remain. Praise God for this grace!
And we’re reminded of many other words our Lord uttered that day:
Matthew 24:7-14 “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come…”
By His power established in us by holy and righteous living, we will endure to the end and be saved.
“Thanks to you, dear Father. Help us, oh God, to walk worthy of You. Give grace unlimited to allow us to endure to the end, full of fruit from the works You prepared beforehand.”

John says
Fear is the opposite of faith. When Scripture speaks of fearing God it speaks of deep reverence and respect for who He is. Fear of man and what he can do to us reflects a lack of faith in who we are in Christ and a focus on who we are in the flesh.

Fear can be much much more than just the revisionist interpretation of reverence alone, brother John. Consider: Hebrews 10:29-31
How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY.” And again, “THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE.” It is a terrifying (reverential?) thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
