The Creator God is so high, so lofty, so humble, so loving, so merciful, and even so wrathful and angry that we humans, His crowning achievement as His bride, can never know Him completely on this side on heaven.
Yet, as He chooses to live in the hearts of creatures that still sin, we look through a glass darkly as we gain more and more insight into His heart…and His terrible wrath.
Certain messages from the brethren resonate in ways few do, and this is one of them. Our brother Francis Chen seeks to describe the indescribable in this short video…
…if God, the infinite God who hides oak trees in acorns, who turns drunken, drug invested rapists into tender, tear stained evangelists, who places more molecules in one glass of water than all the grains of sand on all the earth’s beaches…
…if this God chooses to create a place so magnificent as heaven, can He not create a place of eternal torment and pain for those arrogant creatures that blatantly resisted His free gift that cost this other worldly God His very Son’s torture, murder and ultimate degrading humiliation on that tree?
Naked, forced to urinate and defecate due to loss of bladder and bowel control, a swollen penis due to the body’s crucifixion? In front of His own mother? His close friends and disciples? His sworn enemies, including Satan and his unseen army?
An unsettling question I’ve asked myself many a time to try and understand, and keep loving, such a God as this: what would I do to people that did that to my son?
I am furious at the thought…yet I recoil and am repulsed at the anger and wrath I feel toward fellow humans, but in a strange way would feel satisfaction at the revenge God would exact…
At this point, I’m more and more like God even when our “nice” society promoting the demonic Religion of Niceness screams at us otherwise.
This is called imprecatory anger, vengeance requested from God upon our (and therefore also His) adversaries. It is shown in dozens of places in His Word, especially the songs, the Psalms. Weird, we think, to be singing of anger and vengeance. Our singing is always so “nice.” Our ways are not His ways, especially in the modern west.
Psalm 112:8 His heart is upheld, he will not fear, until he looks with satisfaction on his adversaries.
Psalm 118:7 The LORD is for me among those who help me; therefore I will look with satisfaction on those who hate me.
Psalm 119:84 How many are the days of Your servant? When will You execute judgment on those who persecute me?
God killing little children before the parents eyes? Wives of men being raped and ravished? This is holy? Yes…His ways are not our ways…even the apostle Paul shows us the holiness of imprecatory anger. And let’s not forget the martyrs under the throne loudly crying in the Revelation.
Psalm 137:8-9 O daughter of Babylon, you devastated one, how blessed will be the one who repays you With the recompense with which you have repaid us. How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones against the rock.
Isaiah 13:13-16 Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken from its place at the fury of the LORD of hosts in the day of His burning anger. And it will be that like a hunted gazelle, or like sheep with none to gather them, they will each turn to his own people, and each one flee to his own land.
Anyone who is found will be thrust through, And anyone who is captured will fall by the sword. Their little ones also will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished.2 Timothy 4:14 Alexander the coppersmith did me much harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds.
Revelation 6:10 and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”
Holy anger, fury, and wrath…even the wrath “praises” God.
Psalm 76:10 For the wrath of man shall praise You; with a remnant of wrath You will gird Yourself.
Psalm 90:11-12 Who understands the power of Your anger And Your fury, according to the fear that is due You? So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.
Ephesians 4:26 BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger,
This helps both you and me to better understand this God…
…my God and your God…
…when His ways are not my ways…
…ways that when I am more holy like Him I can begin to embrace, and live, fully.
Let us remember this imprecatory anger is not sin. It is holy, just like our great God.
Ultimate love. Ultimate wrath. Heaven. Hell. His ways. Not ours.

Francis Chan, what a mesage, this is what preaching should be humility to God, this man puts it across beautifully, yet so simple.
Pray for his good work in Jesus name

Brother George,
Brother Chan is a real asset to the kingdom of our Lord! His book Erasing Hell is an excellent source of teaching and defense of the reality of Hell and the Lake of Fire…
Thanks so very much for your comment.

Bob Ingle says
This is a sad commentary about a frustrated, bloodthirsty deity, not reflected in the life, ministry, or example of Jesus. “If you see me, you see my Father.
Chan continues to prop up a doctrine that will not stand the test.

Hi friend,
It appears obvious to me that we have a basic biblical interpretation (hermeneutic) error on your end. If you ever desire to search together for the true truth, and to honorably learn about another’s perspective, please contact me. In the meantime, you may learn more here on stonewalling and hell: http://www.walkworthy.org/stonewall and http://www.walkworthy.org/hell
Jesus Christ spoke a lot about hell and its necessity and reality. To miss that, is to miss the character and loving grace of our Lord. See http://www.walkworthy.org/judgment
God is never bloodthirsty, for He wishes all to escape the devil’s bondage – but He does require blood to pay the price for your sin: either Jesus Christ’s blood atonement or yours… that’s why Paul preached he was innocent of the blood of all men, for he preached the whole counsel of God.
