In the continuous trying times of life, and in the praise of victory knowing God will deliver us eventually, the psalms give us clues and comfort.
In the 35th chapter, David laments that Adonai the Lord looks on and looks on and looks on his troubles without relief. Rescue my soul, he cries, from their ravages. Bad, bad things from bad, bad people are taking place. Malicious witnesses, slander, demonic joy at his stumbling. Rescue my soul, “my only life,” he continues.
In Psalm 22, David again is crying out to deliver his soul from the sword, from the power of the dog. Once more, he writes about “my only life.” Sounds a lot like modern times to those of us in pursuit of working with God in populating, maturing, and completing the kingdom of God.
“Lord Jesus, we have only one life. You know, you know. We beg You not to allow us to waste our life, our only life. Help us, rescue us from the power of adversity, ‘my only life’ from the pit. You are the only hope, but the best hope. Help us, we cry.”
