Our Lord Jesus Christ, for the joy set before Him, boldly sacrificed His flawless human life for former sinners like you and me. The Word of God now declares us saints of the Holy One. Tempted in every way like us, but perfectly flawless. Amazing. Never a mistake, but could have.
He understands…yes, He does!
In that life and sacrifice, He made us holy before the Father and in Christ Himself! Hallelujah. The word we use in English to describe this is sanctification.
The holy Word declares it thus:
Hebrews 13:12-13 (NASB) Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate. So, let us go out to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach.
Our Lord suffered mightily, both physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The reproach from others based on their hatred fell upon Him. Reviling, disgrace, insult, malice, scorn, abuse…to name a few.
What is our holy response to this gift of grace? Our returned grace, or favor, back to Him in the form of loving surrender and imitation. To walk in our lives exactly like He would walk.
Suffering. Reproach. And only He knows what else He has sovereignly chosen for our tests of faith.
The circle of grace then continues since Jesus is our patron and we the client, His friends. If we continue to obey Him as commanded, and endure to the very end!
“We’re so graceful You, Lord, have called and chosen us. Let this short life be a testimony to Your holy greatness and favor. Let Your Spirit fill us and so consume us as to listen to the voice of the God who loved us enough to die.”
