When we think of the saying that God is a consuming fire, what comes to mind? Is it a safe vision, one of comfort and peace? I used to think it was. Until the Spirit gave revelation.
“So watch yourselves, that you do not forget the covenant of the Lord your God which He made with you, and make for yourselves a graven image in the form of anything against which the Lord your God has commanded you. For the Lord your God is a CONSUMING FIRE, a jealous God. Deut. 4:23-24
From the Lord of hosts you will be punished with thunder and earthquake and loud noise, with whirlwind and tempest and the flame of a CONSUMING FIRE. Isaiah 29:6
And the Lord will cause His voice of authority to be heard, and the descending of His arm to be seen in fierce anger, and in the flame of a CONSUMING FIRE; Isaiah 30:30
Sinners in Zion are terrified; Trembling has seized the godless. “Who among us can live with the CONSUMING FIRE? Who among us can live with continual burning?” Isaiah 33:14
See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven. And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven.” This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a CONSUMING FIRE. Hebrews 12:25-29
“My Lord, help us to see Your true identity, Your whole personality. Let me and my brethren not fall into the modern trap of having a spiritual identity crisis and making a God in our own image.”

Deborah says
Fire is frequently used as Gods presence, divine judgment or purification.Fire was means of destruction, especially for things associated with extreme defilement or evil. Idols were frequently destroyed with fire perging the land from the abominable practices. A special fire called : fire of the Lord: consumed the outer edges of Israels camp in the wilderness when the Israelites complained and the same supernatural fire fell from heaven and consumed the soliders whom Ahaziah had sent to seize Elijah the prophet. Jesus described the eternal punishment of the damned with unquenchable fire.

sister deborah – a good word – thanks – we all need to strive to enter the narrow gate of the kingdom and endure to the end or face being erased from the book of life like most sardians in revelation 3. scary stuff but God means business – if the righteous are scarcely saved…
