Many years ago the Holy Spirit led me to the faith Resolutions of a serious soldier of the Lord who lived in America in the 1700’s. The brother? Jonathan Edwards, the prolific author and preacher during the Great Awakening.
I would return to them from time to time and refresh myself in this man’s great attempt to describe in the 1720’s his holy aspirations in Christ. Even in the verbose and archaic early colonial English, their message moved me and others who take the time to digest them.
Finally, the Spirit spoke distinctly to draft my own Resolutions to proclaim to my disciples, and to insure that I pray, review, and live them routinely as I head toward the end of my earthly life.
I have borrowed the heart of many of these from brother Jonathan. I thank God for him and his example of humble perseverance.
In the spirit of humility and the utmost confidence in Him, I offer these for perusal and use in His kingdom and for His family! To God be the glory, and also in the glory He graciously gives us now, His children…

Resolution 29 – Buffet my body to not become a castaway reprobate
Resolved, my dearest Lord God, to live in such a holy way in a spirit of deliverance to prevent departing from the faith by not paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, and to buffet my body daily as our brother the apostle Paul did so that after I too preach to others I would not be a castaway, a reprobate, and someone erased from the Book of Life like many in the church of Sardis in the book of Revelation.
Resolution 30 – Preparing for the Great and Terrible Day of the Lord
Resolved, my dearest Lord God, since You have answered my prayer to stamp eternity on my eyes so all my deeds are for Your final reward and I will not shrink away at Your Son’s appearing, I will always point all peoples to that Great and Terrible Day of the Lord Jesus, the day for which all other days are made, when Your Son will return with us in the sky to vanquish and destroy Your enemies, exult and reward Your faithful saints, and enthrone our Lord Jesus forever as every knee bows and confesses that He indeed is the Lord of all to Your eternal glory!
