Dear brethren,
There are few pleasures as joy-filled as the date night for married heterosexual couples. If you happen to live in a culture where money is available to do so, we strongly exhort you to plan this evening every week.
Personally, as a husband, I have taken the lead on this for over 25 years with my wife! What wonderful blessings God has bestowed on this holy work. Write us please and let us know how it goes with you and your beloved.
Here are some helpful tips…
- We know that many are married to disrespectful wives and unloving husbands, but put that all aside for the night through the power of the Holy Spirit.
- Refuse to let job, “church,” or kids activities interfere and dictate your marriage.
- Husbands, take the lead and plan the night it occurs each week, i.e. Tuesdays.
- Husband, remind the wife of the date, and send her loving and suggestive (!) reminders, i.e. by text and love notes.
- Wife, graciously remind your husband of this new skill and habit if needed, and you desire to be with him.
- Husbands, ask you wife frequently if she has any preferences for the activity.
- No need to spend any, or much, money if it’s a tight time, i.e. a picnic sandwich and bottled water, or a coffee shop split dessert, etc. in winter is just fine!
- Prayer is encouraged, especially in the morning of date night, for spiritual protection with the holy angels since the enemy is a roaring lion and will not like this new idea.
- Husband, treat her like a precious lady of the King, and help her with her coat, and open all her doors.
- Be thankful for each other and express that in no uncertain terms, for there’s always something to be thankful for in your marriage.
- Be playful and remember the early days that drew you all together.
- Put the phones away, and don’t answer it unless your home is burning down!
- No R or PG 13 movies that are displeasing to the Lord your Creator.
- No discussing problems.
- No discussing children or grandchildren.
- No discussing money or church issues.
- No sniping, do you hear that wife?
- No criticism, do you hear that husband?
- Have lots of encouragement with hand holding, kisses, and hugs.
- If either of you make a mistake on the date, just apologize and move on not fusing with the perpetrator and accepting their repentance.
- Remember ladies, men are different and won without a word by your quiet and gentle spirit and chaste behavior which is precious in the sight of God (1 Peter 3).
- Remember men, ladies need your protection and provision in all ways for them to feel secure with you.
- Make sure to consider clean suggestive and frisky private sexual banter during the date!
- And, leave plenty of time and energy for sexual celebration on return.
- Send the kids to bed early, and have teenagers go to their room…and lock your door!
- Thank your spouse for the night, and express anticipation for the next time, for there’s always something good about date night.
- Prayer is encouraged, especially just before lights out in thankfulness to the Lord Jesus and the Father for this special date night blessing.
- En-joy, en-joy, en-joy!
- Write us please and let us know how it goes with you and your beloved.
