The great I AM is the Creator of the entire universe. We’re heirs to His kingdom. Hallelujah! He has made us to be like Him, for it brings Him great pleasure. Incredible in the flesh! But very credible in the Spirit!
The Word confirms His desires for us, His creative creatures:
Genesis 1:26-27 …then God said, “let us make man in our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
So then, the enemy of our soul (“deliver us from the evil one,” Matt. 6:13) seeks to distract us with his schemes (Eph. 6:11).
The world and it’s lusts seeks to ensnare you, your children, and your grandchildren, into the idolatry of mammon, perfecting you as a cultural consumer.
And then it wants to further downshift you all into “virtual reality.” In affluent cultures worldwide, a perverted type of “love” is expressed almost exclusively in purchased things.
Love, for these people, equates to consumerism.
This plays out in various ways day by day.
Notice your life: do you spend any, or noticeable, time being creative and with creative, living things? For example: wood projects, gardening, raising and mating animals (not just as 5-minute-a-day-pets), especially activities that focus around being outside in God’s natural world?
Or, in contrast, is your personal and family’s time primarily with the media, video games, silly books and DVD’s, shopping, sports, etc.? There’s a dullness, impatience, and boring edge to all this after some time. Do you feel it in your own life? Do you see it in children?
If you’re like we were, there’s an exhilaration when we realize and move into being creative creatures, and away from the consumption model that’s so deadening to our spirit.
We found our way out several years ago, and are spreading the word to our children and grandchildren, and all others who will listen. What next, then, if you desire the same?
What do or would you and your family enjoy doing? Building something outside together with you children? Walking, watching for, and collecting God’s wonders, i.e. pine cones, blades of grass, insects, leaves, water? Raising rabbits, dogs, turtles, fish, even red wiggler worms for your garden? Gardening itself?
Something inside too like painting, wood working, any and all types of creative ventures?
Several wonderful ministries abound in teaching us this great truth. Feel free to look up the ministry of Jonathan Lindvall at http://boldchristianliving.com. Search for Children and see all the audio resources they offer.
Also, check out No Greater Joy located in Tennessee and run by Michael and Debi Pearl. They provide guidance and tips on how to proceed. They also write extensively on the positive and negative ramifications of being creative with our families vs. just consuming. Magazine issues speak directly to tying long term strings to your children while being creative. Kids with just good manners but living separately in our homes when their heart is far from us is not pleasing to Jesus. And it’s dangerous in the long run. Be sure to read the excellent article, “Jumping Ship.” This is also in book and DVD form now.
A word of warning: don’t delay this pursuit until some other day. Often that day never appears. The world’s cultural consumer onslaught is extremely strong. But God wants us out, not to be confirmed to the world’s ways, or unequally yoked to what unbelievers love to do.
Well, beloved, if this stirs your soul, a whole new world of creativity awaits you and you loved ones. Please write and let us know what God is doing with you all as He leads you further in reflecting His image!
