THE COURAGE OF KORAH’S SONS TO DISOBEY THEIR FATHER [MONDAY MANNA 166]

August 11, 2014 by jesusislord 4 Comments

photo 1Saints,

It was a long, long time ago.

But the ever existent Holy Spirit even then was filling men and women with supernatural courage. To live and move beyond what any of them might think normal.

Here’s just one story of unsung overcomers of the world that triumphed victorious over all its siren song…

There was still over 1400 years before Jesus would leave the hallowed confines of heaven to enter a human woman to become a human Himself.

They had seen in such a compressed space miracles of spectacular nature…

nuweiba_beach1

Nuweiba Beach in Eqypt

As they ventured just ahead of the enemy, they marched through the desert and slowly gathered at Nuweiba Beach on the western shore of Yam Suph, the sea of reeds.

A whole city of people of probably 2,000,000, which is almost the size of Houston, TX., and all their animals congregated there. You can see from the aerials and satellite photos that the beach is large enough to hold all those living creatures. It’s the only place in that part of the world on a body of water that could do so.

photo104

It’s about seven miles across the Red Sea at that point into Arabia. The Egyptian stone column that was placed by Solomon on the eastern shore years later was removed by the Saudi’s to hide the fact God’s people made it to the other side. But the other one on the Egyptian side is still there…just moved to the other side of the modern day road that now carries tourists to and from the beach.

e9

The 7 mile land bridge

The Gulf of Aqaba, or Red Sea, is a cavernous body of water that extends over 5,000 feet in depth…except in one place. And that’s right at Nuweiba Beach, where a plateau land bridge rises up and forms a gentle 7 degree slope all the way across to the other side. Just right for old folks, children, and terrified animals afraid of water heaped up at least 200+ stories tall which is twice the height of the One World Tower in New York City.

And the sea bed on the plateau land bridge is a smooth, sandy rock-free bottom. Imagine that. Good for chariot wheels and a chase. Modern day divers have found the remains of those wheels, some in the coral encrusted outlines of the chariot remains, and a few wheels themselves. They’re captured on video for all to see.

God knew from the foundation of the earth what He had prepared to do to show His powerful glory. The angel of God, the pre-incarnate Jesus Christ, that appeared to Moses from the burning bush now went behind them as the pillar of cloud moved with them.

When the waters parted at God’s word and the children of Israel entered the canyon of water, the opening was probably at least a mile wide…about 17 football fields in width.

e12When a person reached the half way mark at 3.5 miles, he could try and look up at the top of water…but it was at least 1,000 feet high. Ever wonder how a young child would have felt if he was able to run up to the wall of water and thrust his hand into it?

Estimates are it took all night for the millions of souls and animals to make it across.

Korah and his sons saw this first hand. They were there. They walked through. How could they forget the mighty hand of the Ancient of Days as the prophet Daniel also described his vision of Him?

Korah was Moses’ cousin. His father Izhar and Moses’ father Amran were brothers and son’s of Levi himself, leader of one the 12 tribes. Korah knew Moses. He was family. He was a fellow leader. Both were Levites, and called of God.

Korah had 3 sons: Assir, the eldest, then Elkanah, and finally Abiasaph. They also walked through the sea on dry land. They and their families.

horebrock3

Rock at Horeb – 6 stories tall

The crossing seems to have taken place in the spring, most likely in April. (See the movie clip of the Red Sea parting here.)

Korah also saw the billions of gallons of water, another sea flowing from the split rock at Horeb. One can clearly see this rock on Google Earth and the smooth worn desert rocks from the supernatural flow. It was enough to care for the daily needs of millions…like the size of the city of Houston.

Korah saw the flaming mountain, the lightening, thunder…the dread horror of millions as they trembled at Mt. Sinai. The 10 Commandments. The perversion of the golden calf….He saw it all. He was without excuse.

He knew Moses was God’s anointed. Pride is a powerful weapon in the hand of our adversary if we allow him access to our hearts.

Over that next year, God would teach them about the tabernacle, the other laws to rid themselves of the Egyptian influence, the Passover, and His anger with their grumbling and disputing.

By the next spring, they cowered at the “giants” in the land. Only Joshua and Caleb of their generation would be allowed to enter the promised land…but 40 years from then. We can imagine all were extremely disappointed when they couldn’t enter then and there. Expectations were running high. And they were dashed.

korah 4

Leprosy like Miriam’s

Within 2 months, Miriam led herself and her brother Aaron in a family revolt of sorts against their brother Moses for marrying the Ethiopian women, showing their racism. God strikes her with leprosy, marking her with a white disease in contrast to the black skin of her new sister-in-law.

You think Korah would have gotten the message by now. But it seems only his sons did.

By the end of that year only 4-5 more months after Miriam’s sin, and about 18 months after the Red Sea crossing, Korah instigates a major rebellion. Was he encouraged by the lead of Miriam and Aaron? Most likely.

Why did Korah rebel then against Moses and Aaron? Korah wants to be equal, or superior, to Moses. Evil always wants it’s preeminence over holiness.

Korah was a man of privilege and influence, a Levite and leader of God’s chosen people. But he wanted more…and more. He wanted to be head of the Kohathite clan instead of his cousin Elzaphan, since he was the firstborn of Kohath’s (his grandfather) second son, whereas Elzaphan was not even a firstborn son.

Not only that, at that slight, Korah instigated a brazen attempt whether the office of the High Priest should not have been given to him – rather than to Aaron (Num. 16:10). For sure, Korah had offered sacrifice for the tribe of Levi before the Sin of the Golden Calf, and in relation to their family tree, the choice of the firstborn of Levi ultimately came down to a decision between Aaron, Korah, and Mishael.

korah 3

Moses rebukes Korah & the rebels

His resentment caused him to seek counsel with Dathan and Abiram, two arrogant agitators from the tribe of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn son, that had a long history of hostility toward Moses.

So, Korah is joined in the plot by Dathan and Abiram, and also 250 other leaders. We can be pretty sure that their families were caught up in the whole spectacle. But what were the loyal followers of God thinking about the repercussions about to unfold in their families? And what of their own lives now? Moses rebukes them.

God is furious. He tells His holy men to get away for He’s going to instantly consume the rebels. But Moses and Aaron refuse, fall on their faces, and plead for mercy with God not to kill all these people, the good with the evil.

God relents, and commands Moses to tell all the faithful to get away from the tents of the leaders. The rebels are not convinced, and they defiantly stand firm with “their wives, and their sons, and their little ones.”

Except…

…the sons of Korah.

Assir, the eldest, along with Elkanah and Abiasaph must have bravely stepped away along with their families. Perhaps the younger brothers quickly followed suit, along with their wives, children, animals, and belongings.

This courageous act took a bit to complete.

What taunting did they endure by their own father? What terror was in their hearts with what God would do? They knew His power. Did they plead, even begging and beseeching, openly with their father, their mother, and the others to repent? They must have believed Moses’ warning that if they stayed with the rebels they’d “be swept away in all their sin.”

korah 1Suddenly…out of nowhere, the ground begins to rumble.

Then, the ground roars with rocks splitting, and the earth tearing, opening up wide under the feet of the rebels and their families. And all their possessions. Fire from heaven rains down and consumes alive the 250 rebel leaders, in the putrid sickening smell of burning human flesh. You don’t play with fire…God’s fire.

Screaming. Yelling.

Terrified cries of help as they slide into the chasm and head downward into the center of the earth. Men are burning alive and screaming for help. Some of the rebel leaders are incinerated into thin air.

But there is no help. God is done with them. This is the part of the passage, where He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, that we don’t want to acknowledge.

korah 2

God’s fire descends from heaven

Men and woman are grasping in vain at the sides of the ground now formed like a mountain side cliff. Their bloodied fingers stop clawing and slip quickly and they fall into oblivion.

Cries and screams begin to fade as the earth once again closes up to reveal no trace whatsoever of the crass, cold-hearted humans that stood just a minute before. Some charred remains of the rebel metal incense burners lie unrecognizable on the ground. Others have descended into the pit along with the people.

In central Florida where I live, we often see huge sink holes open up unexpectedly. One near Tampa swallowed a man alive while he was sleeping. The terror is written all over the faces of the witnesses.

The lives of Korah’s sons and their families are forever changed. They probably have fallen to the ground in terror. Their father and mother are gone. Forever.

At times, it’s the parents who must avoid their disobedient adult children who have a form of Godliness but have denied His power, and have been turned over to Satan so he may destroy their flesh. In order for God to save their spirit.

How long muphoto 2st it have been for these dear saints and the children to recover to any sort of normalcy? What must have imprinted on their minds for the rest of their lives? Would they ever talk about it except in hushed tones?

The memory would always be alive…and the drama of the sons of Korah stepping over to the side of gracious salvation.

The mercy of the Lord was evident because the Word proclaims this…

Numbers 26:11 The sons of Korah, however, did not die.

What courage the three sons displayed. Abiasaph, the youngest, we know named his son after his oldest brother Assir. Did the oldest brother, Assir, make the first move away from his father Korah giving the others courage to follow? Might this be a reason Abiasaph gave that name to his own son?

How hard was it for them to pull away from all they knew in that few minutes of decision making? Devotion to God often calls for peace with Him when our families tear at the holiness our Lord Jesus demands of us. The most intimate love for God is imitation of Him and His ways.

In the mercy of Yahweh, the sons of Korah as Levites will attend to the thresholds of the tents. They play a key role and they know their place. God always uses those of us who remain faithful…to Him.

Someday in tougher times ahead we might be called upon to do the same. And what will we then choose? Ordinarily, we’re to never be disobedient to our adult parents, for this is a sign of the end times rebellion. As we see here in this story with Korah’s sons, there are the rare but crucial times to disobey your adult parents when they require you to rebel against God’s holy ways.

Matthew 10:34-39 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. “For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household.

“He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it.”

One final thing.music

God anoints the sons of Korah as special musicians to help the children of God to “muse” on Him! Over 10 Psalms penned by them are a part of His final record. And we’re the recipients of this wonderful grace, for which of us hasn’t been touched by these inspired words?

Psalm 42:1 For the choir director. A Maskil (contemplative poem) of the sons of Korah.

As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for You, O God.

Like you, I’m so glad they stepped over to God’s side. May we do likewise.

DISOBEDIENT TO ADULT PARENTS IN THE END TIMES [DEAR BRETHREN 16]

August 4, 2014 by jesusislord 2 Comments

obey adult parents 5

Please note you can watch this teaching in video format right below…

Dear brother and sister,

Just as a vital reminder to us all, to disobey God is not to obey God. We all know John 3.16. But do we know the last verse in that chapter proclaimed by John the baptizer, the very cousin of our Lord:

John 3:36 “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Many people today in God’s church where cultures promote a fierce independent spirit like the Corinthians firmly believe that their parents have absolutely no sway over them as an adult.

I know. I used to be one of them years ago.

…the post is continued below after the videos…

…the post continues:

Well, I thought, my parents are unsaved, and some of their ideas are really strange. And I placated them by being sincerely interested in all they did.

But…obeying my adult parents. What nonsense. And I considered my walk a close discipleship with the Lord.

Certainly, young children need to obey and I was a focused, firmly loveable Dad with my own kids, and those in our assembly. But once old enough, they were on their own with no strings attached. I mean, that only makes good sense, right? After all, this was America!

And the sacred writings, the holy Scriptures, seemed to confirm that strongly:

Ephesians 6:1-3 Children (not “men” like 2 Tim. 3), obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER (which is the first commandment with a promise), SO THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU, AND THAT YOU MAY LIVE LONG ON THE EARTH.

Old-Testament_472_313_80

All Scripture is inspired…

But the Holy Spirit, praise God, had other plans for me.

Did God Say the Old Testament Still Applies In Part?

“Marc,” He seemed to say, “did you notice that Paul again quoted the Old
Testament?”

Well, yes I did actually. And I was noticing that more and more. Finally I came to realize that the original contract with mankind, God’s “Old” Testament, had been referred to directly over 300 times in the New Covenant.

So, it followed that the “Old” was still new in some way. You can read what the Scriptures say about itself here. Also, we can learn why God chose to include so much of the Old Covenant in the New right here.

When the Spirit began urging me to reconsider my doctrine on this, He kept bringing me back to a very disturbing phrase: disobedient to parents. It was in two passages both in 2 Timothy 3 and in Romans 1.

And it was painfully obvious that the context (how the phrase was used there) was speaking to adults, not children. And in 2 Timothy 3 Paul commands his followers to “avoid such men (people) as these.”

How can we avoid the children in our own homes?

We can’t, and that’s the point. God then brought an American brother with a major ministry into our lives that began the journey away from this part of the American gospel. Jonathan Lindvall from Bold Christian Living taught very radical doctrines for all parents. At the end of this article, you may listen to one of his messages called The Curse of Individualism. For it too deals with obeying your parents. Adult parents. His own story with his parents bears repeating.

Another clue surfaced when I approached a home church leader who I admired and respected for his ecclesiology and asked him about this passage of 2 Tim 3 and its meaning.

“Oh, that’s just the Old Testament stuff,” he exclaimed. “It doesn’t apply today.”

When I pressed him a bit to explain further, he just condescendingly dismissed me. End of conversation. And I had borne the brunt of his other opinions that I vehemently disagreed with for years. He was, as we define it at Walk Worthy, a stonewaller.

Again, Paul Let’s Us Have It Between the Eyes

What does God’s Word teach us in all this? Let’s dive in to the gold mine of God’s heart and mind. First the passages describing the sin. Remember the “last days” are from that time until this present day.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men (adult, self-professing believers) will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to (adult) parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; avoid such men (adult, self-professing believers) as these.

obey adult parentsThis sin delivers difficult, perilous, times to the offended party: the adult parents. Notice the other heinous sins that accompany these times, and the sin of being disobedient to parents. Evil, evil despicable things. And it’s not mentioning children like other New Covenant passages reveal.

And to top it all up, those who closely follow Jesus Christ must avoid these people. What a heartbreak when a parent has to avoid the adult child due to the child’s sin against the parents. Jesus did declare He came to bring a sword, and a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.

Luke 12:50-53 “But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished! Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three.

“They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

Anguish. Deep pain…

Second then we have the passage in Romans 1, and the consternation it causes in a believers heart that real people actually live this way.

Romans 1:18+ For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men (adult people) who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them…And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to (adult) parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

Again, notice the other sins that are packed around adult children who disobey their parents. Dangerous sins.

Well, then, we explore and discover the many examples God leaves us of the way adult children should treat their parents. This was an eye opener to me, but not a big surprise since the heart of God is always for the “elder” person.

It’s only in a disintegrating culture that the majority of the people revere youth and disdain old age. What demonic foolishness. God’s way is exactly the opposite. Exactly.

And lest we forget…these examples are given before the formal giving of the 10 commandments and God’s Law at Mt. Sinai.

Moses_w_Jethro_1116-80

Moses asks Jethro for permission

Noah, Jacob, Moses, The Rechabites, Their Sons, Daughters and Families

All three grown, married sons of Noah (Shem, Ham and Japheth) obeyed their father and helped build the Ark. All three obeyed their father and gathered a year’s supply of food for the Ark (Genesis 6:21). All three believed God and honored their father in spite of the fact that the entire world ridiculed their father Noah. And for 120 years. Do we get that? 120 years. What faithful loyalty…

Genesis 7:7 Then Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him entered the ark because of the water of the flood.

When Jacob declared all his kin that they would travel to Egypt at son Joseph’s suggestion because there was a famine, they all uprooted and no argument or dissension is recorded. All of Jacob’s sons were by that time fathers, and two of them (Judah and Asher) were grandfathers.

Genesis 46:5-7 Then Jacob arose from Beersheba; and the sons of Israel carried their father Jacob and their little ones and their wives in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him. They took their livestock and their property, which they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and came to Egypt, Jacob and all his descendants with him: his sons and his grandsons with him, his daughters and his granddaughters, and all his descendants he brought with him to Egypt.

Moses, after his encounter with God at the burning bush, went to ask his father-in-law Jethro if he could leave. Notice it’s his father-in-law, not father.

Exodus 4:18 Then Moses departed (from God at the burning bush) and returned to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, “Please, let me go, that I may return to my brethren who are in Egypt, and see if they are still alive.” And Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.”

The entire 35th Chapter of Jeremiah is devoted to God’s approval of the Rechabites. These descendants of Jonadab the son of Rechab were grown, married men. They refused to drink wine or buy land because their father Jonadab, the son of Rechab had commanded them in this way.

Jeremiah 35:8-10 “We have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he commanded us, not to drink wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons or our daughters, nor to build ourselves houses to dwell in; and we do not have vineyard or field or seed. We have only dwelt in tents, and have obeyed and have done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

And God uses the peerless obedient example of the Rechabites, 250 years after their ancestor commanded them never to drink, in being disobedient to adult parents.

Jeremiah 35:12-14 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying, “Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, ‘Go and say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, “Will you not receive instruction by listening to My words?” declares the LORD.

“The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, which he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are observed. So they do not drink wine to this day, for they have obeyed their father’s command. But I have spoken to you again and again; yet you have not listened to Me…

blood-hands3What? Death To The Rebel Child?

Now…right after the 10 Commandments are given in Exodus 20, we see this command of God as a part of the Law.

Exodus 21:15 “He who strikes his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

Leviticus 20:9 If there is anyone who curses his father or his mother, he shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother, his bloodguiltiness is upon him.

Deuteronomy 21:18-21 “If any man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father or his mother, and when they chastise him, he will not even listen to them, then his father and mother shall seize him, and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gateway of his hometown. They shall say to the elders of his city, `This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey us, he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ read more.” Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death; so you shall remove the evil from your midst, and all Israel will hear of it and fear.

Deuteronomy 27:16 ‘Cursed (woe) is he who dishonors his father or mother.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

Death is the result for hitting, or even cursing, your parents! Today, there would be a lot of dead children, no? Physically striking or verbally abusing a parent is no different to God than murder. They are capital crimes worthy of death!

Having the blood of others on our head is an awful consequence, and carries over from the original law…but we can be innocent of this when we obey.

Matthew 27:24-25 When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this Man’s blood; see to that yourselves.” And all the people said, “His blood shall be on us and on our children!”

Acts 20:25-30 “And now, behold, I (Paul) know that all of you, among whom I went about preaching the kingdom, will no longer see my face. Therefore, I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men. For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God…

Honoring Parents To Be Well and Live Long

These Old Covenant doctrines are still part of the New Covenant, as they are quoted anew as inspired Scripture.

Deuteronomy 5:16 ‘Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, that your days may be prolonged and that it may go well with you on the land which the LORD your God gives you.

Ephesians 6:1-4 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER (which is the first commandment with a promise), SO THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU, AND THAT YOU MAY LIVE LONG ON THE EARTH. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

obey adult parents 3

Enemies in your own household

The Worst Enemies Are in Our Own House

When we walk closely with God, our own family will very likely be our worst enemy.

Micah 7:6 For son treats father contemptuously, Daughter rises up against her mother, Daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; A man’s enemies are the men of his own household.

Matthew 10:21-22 Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.

Matthew 10:34-36 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW; and A MAN’S ENEMIES WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD.

Smiling daughter with her motherHonor, Not Evil

And we’re obligated to return the blessing to our parents when they need help in their older years. We see here how the false religious leaders got around this. Unfortunately, it happens all too often today as our parents waste away in someone else’s care.

Mark 7:8-13 “Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men. He was also saying to them, “You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition. For Moses said, ‘HONOR YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER’; and, ‘HE WHO SPEAKS EVIL OF FATHER OR MOTHER, IS TO BE PUT TO DEATH’; but you say, ‘If a man says to his father or his mother, whatever I have that would help you is Corban (that is to say, given to God),’ you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or his mother; thus invalidating the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down; and you do many things such as that.”

Are we living as we should? Or are we passing judgment on others while practicing the very things we condemn?

Romans 2:1-11 Therefore you have no excuse, every one of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things. But do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgment on those who practice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS: to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation.

There will be tribulation and distress for every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek, but glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God.

Are we fussing with our parents as adults when it’s clear we should be obeying them even now? Are we irreconcilable with them, or others, and headed for the lake of fire?

Are we just avoiding our parents so they can’t ask us to do something? Or are we actively asking them for advice, help, or permission?

Are we hanging our hat on the myth that the Old Testament, by and large, has no applicability for today? If so, what are the Scriptures here that speak to us since the New Testament wouldn’t be complied until decades later?

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Hopefully, It’s Not Too Late…Repent Or Perish Says The King

Personally, I only wish I had known of this sooner so my lost parents could have seen the Holy Spirit’s power and leading in my life as I honored them to a much greater extent.

Are you treating your adult parents with contempt in any way? Dismissing them as old buffoons perhaps?

god is able

God’s power leads us to repentance

Or worse?

Then according to Paul’s admonition, we’d have to avoid you completely as a professing believer…and he declares in Roman’s 1 that those human creatures will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the kingdom of the lake of fire of Satan himself.

Your children and grandchildren are watching us every day to see if we’re obeying our own adult parents. And if not, do you really think they’ll obey and honor you when they become adults?

Hardly…

This is as serious as it gets, beloved. Let us prove our grace infused love for Christ by finally obeying Him in this vital area. Or as He mused thousands of years ago:

Luke 13:1-5 Now on the same occasion there were some present who reported to Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. And Jesus said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were greater sinners than all other Galileans because they suffered this fate?

“I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.

“Or do you suppose that those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them were worse culprits than all the men who live in Jerusalem?

“I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”

Mercy, Lord – and this too?

Luke 6:46-49 “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?

“Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.

“But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.”

EVERY CHRISTIAN IS A FULL TIME MISSIONARY [MONDAY MANNA 164]

July 1, 2014 by jesusislord Leave a Comment

mission field signDear friends,

Our dear friend and fellow house church planter Neil Cole is fond of saying that no one has a “junior Holy Spirit” in that even a very young person has 100% of God’s Spirit at conversion. Of course, fuller and deeper maturity takes time, and we all hope for the baptism of the Spirit immediately! For in it lies God’s real and full power of His Spirit for kingdom living.

But in the same way, every Christian is a full time missionary. No exceptions.

Let me explain if I might…

When first saved here in the west and because it was beaten into my head a million times in the first few years, I bought into the satanic deception that indeed there were only a few special Christians that were “full time.” That meant, obviously, that I, along with most everyone else, was “part time.”

And if you were really “called,” you’d be a “missionary.” That meant you’d have all your living expenses essentially paid for by people who worked hard in the marketplace “full time” but were “part time” Christians “partnering” with “full time” Christians.

And that’s not all, beloved.

Only A Few Are Called?called

If you were really, really, really “called,” you’d be serving Jesus Christ “full time” on the “mission field” and be “fully supported” to boot. That meant geographically, for certain, anywhere but where you were living now if born in that country. And the further away and more remote, the better.

Unless you were in the “home office” helping raise lots of “support” and helping with admin, etc for the “full time” missionaries who were not there. That counted. You might be “full time” since you raised you own “support” from your own “partners.” But it’s still not anywhere close to the top of the food chain since you weren’t a real “missionary” on the real “mission field.”

People would get all misty eyed where someone “on furlough” and/or “back home” came to speak about their far flung ventures. There’s indeed something exhilarating and mysteriously exhorting about those folks who arrive with their testimonies, display tables, PowerPoint slides, refrigerator magnets, and colored newsletters. And to this day, we do “support” some, and support others in many ways! So do you I suspect.

As an aside, these visiting “missionaries” have never asked me in 27 years about my testimonies in my mission field. It’s always unilateral. I suspect it’s due to the fact in their opinion I’m “back home,” and “part time,” and not “fully supported,” etc.

But still…

Odd, I mused. Was that what God really wanted? What about all the rest of us, Lord? Are we 2nd, or 3rd, class “citizens” since we’re not “called?” At least so far?

So…at first…I too wanted to be not only “full time” but also a real “missionary.” Many of my other zealous Christian friends also felt the same. We prayed to that end. We were desperately trying to discern God’s “calling” so as to not make a mistake and fall flat on our face.

I read book after book about these real “missionaries” and was waiting to be sent “full time” to Asia or Africa. Very far flung. I even made a couple of “short term mission trips” where the “full time missionaries” called us “missionaries”…at least for the week or two we were there!

I felt much better during those trips. Like I had finally arrived for a season…albeit very, very, very short.

Certainty, there were pious platitudes espoused by the “church” such as “bloom where you’re planted.” Which is true. But still, in the final analysis, we were still “part time.”

I was always bothered by that. Maybe you were, or are at this time.

You all know what I mean, dear ones. At least those here who are “part time.” Take heart, my friend.

Well…

truth-smallThe Cracks Form & The Truth Flows Out

The cracks in that “missionary model” began to show up soon as the Holy Spirit began to flood me with rapid truths about what really pleases the Father!

First, He quickly dismantled the “church” system concept by exposing the huge problems in every aspect of it. The institutional system not only stifles, but even kills, Biblical maturity and the “church service” itself. This system relegates 95% of His body to spectator mode…while the “full time” pros “feed” us.

The argument in defense is that “God is working.” Of course, He is. A church leader I know well states God will fill whatever we give Him. He will. He loves His people.

But that’s the wrong defense…and it has no truck with the Word of God.

In a dramatic illustration serving to expose the excuse of using minimums for God’s kingdom work and to stun the hearer, I state often that “God saves people every day in Asian whorehouses too, but that doesn’t mean we should frequent them.”

Now don’t fuss with me on that quite yet…

But, instead, first read, study, and mediate upon Frank Viola and George Barna’s outstanding work, Pagan Christianity? In this exhaustive piece, these brothers show us how in the world we got what we have today in no uncertain terms…the continuation of the Roman “church” established in the early 300’s, and the further disintegration since then.

The word “church” demanded by Henry VIII and his minions was opposed by soon martyred bible translator William Tyndale who argued for the word “congregation” to describe the actual people of God. Henry and the boys loved the system and the fact “church” meant primarily real estate. Some things never change, do they?

Moreover, the average “pastor” is not a shepherd at all in most cases. He (or she) is almost always an orator, a teacher, or preacher. And if they were really honest with all the spiritual gifts in their assembly, the humorous and ironic result would appear like this.

The average Sunday morning church service, Sunday School, the whole bit, is neither described, nor prescribed, in the New Covenant record. Christ’s body always, without exception, met in homes, as a home church.

No pastor. No head buffalo. No church names. Nothing of the sort. Only elder led consensus with the body (the ecclesia) of Christ with the Head Himself, Jesus Christ, leading all members through His Holy Spirit.

A frequent argument is proposed by institutional church folks that the reason the early church met in homes is because they couldn’t afford buildings. Not so. From archeological evidence we know some simple home assemblies met in larger homes of affluent families. Furthermore, the pagans have written derogatory things about the early church’s home meetings because they refused to meet in pagan worship buildings like the pagans did!

The demonic worldly wisdom also produces a false doctrine of two classes: clergy (“full time”) and laity (“part time”), completely foreign to the apostolic history, doctrine, and daily example in the book of Acts of the Apostles.

Which Traditions?Jesus_temple

Jesus Himself warned about the traditions of men:

Mark 7:8-9 “Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men.”

He was also saying to them, “You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition…”

And the apostle Paul commanded us to hold to the traditions of God only:

Colossians 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.

In the same way, then, the “church” system arrived at the “full time missionary” shenanigans, they also invented the brilliant idea of demanding the “missionaries” children be shipped off to distant school holding tanks since these precious children were “in the way” of the real “full time missionaries.” Amazingly stupid. When God blesses, He puts people together, and when He curses, He always splits people up.

This is not rocket science.

What a mess. We have dear saints now grown who barely survived this nonsense, and they still suffer the pain of not only past isolation and rejection, but in some cases, molestation. Scarred for life…God help us.

thankful 4The Truth is Now Evident

We now know beyond a doubt that indigenous workers in their own country, telling stories vs. a written Bible like the west, and at times with some limited help from the west, are light years ahead of what the west forced upon them for hundreds of years.

Cross cultural workers can have a hand in the kingdom gospel for certain. But it may take years more to undo the damage of adopting the Roman church system that still exists today since the enemy planted it in the early 300’s.

The Word speaks clearly that all Christians are commanded to financially support those who work hard as preaching and teaching, and elders worthy of double honor, and itinerant apostolic church planters, to name a few.

A Full Time Missionary – Always

Remember, dear saint: you’re a full time missionary right where you are today. Now.

Go ahead and bloom…yes…but more importantly, get going with the good works that He prepared for you beforehand (Eph. 2.10). Pray, fast, sacrifice, suffer…be a little Christ…

As for me personally, I’m a full time missionary in the 3rd largest mission filed in the world…

America.

George Barna states that maybe 5% of Americans are saved. Maybe. And I fully agree with him. That means my indigenous mission field where I live has over 300,000,000 souls…a full 50,000,000 more than the 4th largest mission field in the whttp://www.dreamstime.com/stock-photo-usa-map-made-people-image8880980orld, Indonesia, with 247,000,000.

So then…

I’m also “fully supported” financially by God in my full time missionary work through two ways: as a “tent maker” business consultant as well as Walk Worthy here in preaching and discipling the whole gospel and purpose of God worldwide.

We have numerous offers to come “minister” in foreign countries with the truth of the real gospel…often to combat the false Western and American gospel that has also polluted their countries. When I engage in this, I call myself a “cross cultural missionary.” Some address me as “Pastor,” and I gently but resolutely correct them that I’m their “brother” only. A pastor is a spiritual gift, not an office.

And being a good steward of the Word of God, when brethren discuss a missionary doing kingdom work outside our area here in America, I correct them by stating, “You mean they’re a cross cultural missionary.” And they almost always verbally agree.

The Biggest Ministry in The World

And, surprisingly so, as a “tent maker” business consultant, I also do kingdom work, probably just like you, in the biggest ministry in the history of missions all time besides the home and family…

The ministry of business.

business ministryAll of life is ministry…100%. Every detailed aspect. Our brother the apostle Paul made that crystal clear in Romans as he sought to dispel the Old Covenant idea that only some of life was “worship.” As a living and holy sacrifice, my worship is 24-7. Even how I brush my teeth to the glory of God…

Romans 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

There’s multiple opportunities to preach the unsurpassed riches of Christ, His gracious repentance and love, His abiding wrath on the lost, and to serve those in need and suffering in the marketplace.

And to the homemakers, we state that your loving contributions to your family members that work outside the home receives a “King’s reward” too. Thanks and congratulations for supporting the biggest ministry in the world: business.

Have you ever considered that nothing happens in “missionary work” or “church work” or the body of Christ without the income of human beings that are employed and those taking risks to begin and sustain those businesses as business owners called entrepreneurs? In America, as in many portions of the world, 80% of the economy is made up of businesses that employ twenty employees and less!

Sometimes when a person asks, “What do you do,?” I respond by stating that I’m an “Ambassador.” Their quizzical look gives way to the ultimate follow up question: “For what country?”

And with a smile, I normally state, “Heaven. Where the kingdom of God through Jesus Christ is represented here and now by its kingdom citizens on earth.”

Amen?

Which Jerusalem?

The Orlando, Florida area in America just happens to be my personal “Jerusalem.” America is my “Samaria.” And I strive to be highly evangelistic everywhere: on my street, in the grocery store, at Walmart, with the business people I serve and as I use their products and services, at a restaurant, at the gas station, in the airport…

Everywhere.

We’re an aroma to all we meet…either fragrantly acceptable to those saved, or the stench of rotting flesh as death to the lost, disobedient, and currently headed for the lake of fire.

2 Corinthians 2:15-16 For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life…earth mission

And if this deathly aroma is not evident consistently with the rejection and anger of the lost you encounter, perhaps you’re actually perishing, or departing from the faith.

God has given me upwards of 300,000,000 souls that He may prepare some for me to proclaim His Truth of the King and His Kingdom. What a unfathomable privilege.

What about you? Where is your “Jerusalem?” Your “Samaria?” And, more importantly, what are you doing with the talent(s) He’s bestowed upon you with His immeasurable grace? Is it being used 100% of your ability through Him? Have you foolishly buried it? What will you say to Him at His Judgment Seat (2 Cor.5-10)?

Can we give praise to the Almighty that all of us…every single kingdom citizen…is a full time missionary for and fully supported by the King Himself?

What an opportunity. And through many tribulations we shall enter fully and finally into that kingdom. His kingdom. Through His King…this has never been for the faint of heart.

He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
