Brethren,
With the plethora of false gospel ideas that pervade the church scene worldwide, it’s a wonder anyone can come to know the true truth! Fortunately for us here in the affluent West, we have the written Word of God that has by and large been accurately translated. Hallelujah!
One of the poster children for this nonsense was a long-time Pentecostal church person of some notoriety who tangled with me over twenty years ago. He certainly did not like our preaching and teaching since he was still immersed in the antinomian (anti-law) movement that spans the earth. The last and final time we connected, he yelled at me over the phone arrogantly declaring, “The gospel is only five words: ‘Jesus died for your sins.’”
Wrong answer. To my knowledge, this deceived man remains intensely popular with the baby manger Jesus crowd and the mentality of the New Trinity. We must remember: the more popular, the less truth.
The Word Holds A Key
When I, Marc, teach in the body of Christ I often ask what is the best way to know how Jesus actually lived. We’re to emulate him in all ways, no?
1 John 2:4–6 The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.
Some enterprising saint will always rightly answer that the written Word holds a key. So, we dive into the Gospel accounts to discover who the real Jesus actually ends up being in real life. The Living Word can confirm these facts through His Holy Spirit!
In the early 2000’s I was introduced to a church leader in Atlanta, GA USA that was supposedly ministering to young strung-out drug addicts. As we talked, I asked him what Gospel he preached to these folks. He looked at me like I was asking him about his private sex life, for goodness’ sake.
The Gospel Is Propositional
“The gospel is never propositional,” he firmly replied. What he meant is there’s no requirement of anything expected from the receiver. And that was that he made clear. That’s pure nonsense of heresy, of course. I folded my tent and left quickly being tremendously disappointed, and disturbed in my soul.
I vowed to our dear Lord to offer a gospel events study to His body if He wanted to prove this man dead wrong. A few years later I did begin this enormous challenge. It took ten years to finish grabbing a few snippets of time here and there to plug away at the completed product. If you too preach the whole counsel of God to avoid any blood of others on your hands (Acts 20:26), the opposition from the evil spirit world and the church people under their influence will be relentless. God in the end will triumph if you endure, but major projects like this take a lot of time since those church people do not financially support your work for Jesus!

Finally, the 250 gospel events chart of around forty pages was completed and offered to the body of Christ. It confirms just how bold and propositional Christ’s life was in reality. The column headings contain these categories: Events &Verses; Speaker/Person & Audience; Audience Mood; Relationship; Message; Message Type: Bold or Gentle; Something Required; Outcome of Passage.
To those who actually read it thoroughly and meditate on the contents, the reaction is uniform: “I had no idea Jesus was like this.” That’s how far afield we actually are these days.
You recall what the apostle Paul said in his classic admonishment to the Galatians and their false gospel. Remember that repetition is Bible code for supreme importance.
Galatians 1:6–9 I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!
